Exclusivity is dead, long live the mutliplatform titles.

And this year, there has been some exceptional titles on either the PS3, 360 and Wii to boot.

Grand Theft Auto IV was completely overhyped and did not live up to the standards of GTA III, Vice City or even San Andreas. That said, GTA IV was still a great game and one of the finest this year.

Burnout Paradise for the PS3 and 360 will surely be the winner of “Best Game This Year to Get Great Free DLC” but even if it doesn’t, Criterion deserve a shitload of praise delievering a substanual amount of DLC which should be premium DLC for free for what is an already great game without the DLC.

FIFA 09 finally ruled the roost in football games this year, beating Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 to the crown of “Best Football Game” this year on the PS3, 360 and Wii.

And Fallout 3, at first labeled an Oblivion with guns, has turned out to be the RPG released this year on the PS3 and 360.

Here are the nominees for Best Multiplatform Title of 2008.

Tomorrow (November 19th), the Xbox 360 will get a serious makeover and I mean serious.

The New Xbox Experience isn’t just a software update like your old annual updates for the Xbox 360 or Firmware updates for the PLAYSTATION 3, this is a brand new UI to the Xbox 360.

On Wednesday, all Xbox 360′s (pending they have broadband of course but don’t worry, if you dont have BB, the update will come in various games) will be booting up around the world to say goodbye to the Dashboard and say hello to the New Xbox Experience.

It seems to be the perfect candidate for it and now it seems to be happening.

According to Xbox Evolved, they are saying that Halo 3: Recon, the expansion to Halo 3 and Bungie’s final Halo game, will be going onto Xbox Live Marketplace stating it’s only possible with the New Xbox Experience.

While this isn’t the first time console games have had both a retail release and a digital download, the PS3 has at least 3 games at retail and PS Store including Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty, it will be the first time that Microsoft has done this for the Xbox 360.

But it looks like Halo 3: Recon isn’t just the other games which are up for this project.

RUMOR: Sony Sign’s Media Molecule to a 3 Game Deal on PLAYSTATION 3

Posted in PlayStation 3 with tags , , , on November 18, 2008 by Jonathan Cullen

littlebigplanet-2

Back off the heals of LittleBigPlanet, Media Molecule are obviously glad that they have their game out there at long last.

But they maybe more glad at the news that Sony has offered them a 3 game deal, on the back of LittleBigPlanet, for the PLAYSTATION 3 and have apparently accepted.

While Media Molecule is infact a 3rd party studio and could be gobbled up at any time by any big developer or even Microsoft or Nintendo, GOONL!NE has learnt from sources that this contract could ultimately lead to Media Molecule being brought into the in-house studios of Sony, joining Naughty Dog (Uncharted: Drakes Fortune), Guerrilla Games (Killzone 2) and Zipper Interactive (SOCOM/M.A.G)

GOONL!NE’s Best of 2008 – Best Xbox 360 Game

Posted in GOONL!NE Stuff, Xbox 360 with tags , , , on November 18, 2008 by Jonathan Cullen

xbox-360The Xbox 360 has had a very strong year in 2008.

While behind the Nintendo Wii, it outsells the PLAYSTATION 3 by nearly a 2:1 ratio.

And this year wasn’t even a Halo year, it’s was a Gears year when Gears of War 2 was revealed, announced and released in the same year.

But if you thought Gears of War 2 was gonna have all of the limelight, you thought wrong. Peter Molyneux’s Fable II was finally released and we absoutely loved it.

But there was also Lost Odyssey, one of several new RPG’s that was being made by Hironobu Sakaguichi alongside Blue Dragon.

And the bird and the bear returned to our screens very recently as Banjo Kazooie returned to the gaming stage for the first time in a long while in their debut for the Xbox 360.

But who out of these 4 deserves the Xbox 360 GOTY?

Hit the jump for your nominees and your chance to vote.

GOONL!NE Best of 2008 – Best PLAYSTATION 3 Game

Posted in GOONL!NE Stuff, PlayStation 3 with tags , , , on November 17, 2008 by Jonathan Cullen

ps3

The PS3 has had it rough.

Since it’s European launch back in March 2007, it’s had a very rough patch but now it’s starting to fight back against Microsoft and Nintendo. This year, they have proved that they have the catalogue of games to fight Microsoft in the HD console war with it’s biggest flagship title leading the way in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

But MGS4 isn’t just the only big gun the PS3 has had this year. Insomniac has come in with some big back-up with a PSN release for Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty and it’s 3rd generation Blu-Ray release in Resistance 2.

But which PS3 game is cream of crop?

You decide after the jump.

Xbox Live is Down

Posted in Xbox 360 with tags , , , , , on November 17, 2008 by Jonathan Cullen

xbox-360Xbox Live is down.

Major Nelson has reported that the downtime shouldn’t last long stating it’s down only for 45 minutes as of 2:00am PST (thats 10:00am here).

It comes after Xbox Live went through a bit of a kicking during the weekend when people got signed out by the system but the Major states that while this has been fixed, the downtime is to reinforce the brick wall put up by Microsoft for the launch of NXE on Wednesday.

More after the jump.
