GDC 2009: Sony to Announce Something for PLAYSTATION 3 on Tuesday

Sony’s sent out a notice that they’re going to announce something from this coming Tuesday. While they didnt say what it was, people have been speculating as to if this is finally when they announce that long awaited price cut, among other things as well.

Personally, we dont think it’ll be a price cut, it may just be a notice for Firmware 2.70 incoming. That said, the 2009 fiscal year ends on Thursday and it’s not Sony’s nature send out notice’s for Firmware updates unless they were hours beforehand on the PS Blog, not days beforehand so actually, this could lead to a price cut, but for now, we’ll go for the Firmware.

Prove us wrong Sony, prove us wroooooooooooooong!

GDC 2009: Uncharted 2 Gameplay Footage Leaked

Posted in GDC 2009, PlayStation 3 with tags , , , , on March 28, 2009 by Jonathan Cullen

uncharted-2-1

God bless camera phones, the internet and YouTube, I dont think we’d know what we’d be able to do without them in these modern and troublesome times. Someone’s managed to escape with their lives with gameplay footage of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves during a Naughty Dog seminar at GDC.

In it, you see Nathan Drake in a wartorn part of Tibet (I could easily go Thom Yorke on your ass after saying that but I wont) where he is looking for his new partner, Chloe. It’s after the jump, you get to see shoot some things, climb some things and you even get to see him fall from a crumbling building, and see him fall back like a ragdoll from a explosion.

Game’s out this autumn for PS3.

Geoff Keighley’s just been in touch with GOONL!NE, via Twitter, to confirm that the secret game that was referred to during a promo for this week’s GameTrailers TV is infact for Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time.

Keighley already confirmed beforehand but we just had to confirm that it was the secret game in question.

When I asked him as to what this secret new game (via my personal Twitter, not the GOONL!NE one admittingly, sorry), he confirmed it was the new Ratchet.

yes correct it’s a teaser for Ratchet

So, there you have, look out for the first trailer when it should hit at 7/8am GMT, 1am PST.

The game was revealed this past week during GDC, its due out this Autumn for the PS3.

GDC 2009: Kojima All But Announces Metal Gear Solid 5

Posted in GDC 2009, PlayStation 3 with tags , , , , on March 26, 2009 by Jonathan Cullen

hideo-kojima

Near the end of his GDC keynote earlier, Hideo Kojima gave the biggest hint yet that his next project wasnt Zone of the Enders 3 and was, infact, Metal Gear Solid 5. During the keynote, he presented what styles of development were used for previous Metal Gear Solid’s like camo for Metal Gear Solid 3 or harnassing the power of the PS3 for Metal Gear Solid 4.

But right at the end, he showed a slide which was titled “The Next MGS”. For development of that, he said he wanted to combine the use of JApanese and Western development styles with Japanese development techinques been led on design while the Western front was all about software, a prime use of that would be open worlded games like Grand Theft Auto.

However, just as we though he was leading up to an announcement and a change of heart following yesterday, nope. Kojima walked off stage and showed nothing meaning we have to wait now until E3 before an announcement is made on Koj’s next game, be that MGS5 or anything else (plz fo Zone of teh Enderz 3 plzkthz<3ubi).

So, how long till E3?

Nearly 2 months?

Fuck. Its gonna be a long wait.

We’ve all heard of the infamous saying Kaz Hirai said during the infamous Sony press conference at E3 2006:

RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDGE RACER!

No, not that one! No, this one:

The PLAYSTATION 3 will retail for $599.

JESUS CHRIST, NOT THAT ONE, THIS ONE!

The next generation doesn’t start until we say it does

Except, that is more or less wrong. Next gen started when we were blown away by a game which showed absolutely great potential. So, what kicked off this gen for you, what was the first game you were blown away by?

GDC 2009: Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time Revealed

Posted in GDC 2009, PlayStation 3 with tags , , , , , on March 26, 2009 by Jonathan Cullen

ratchet-clank-2

Just as we thought, Insomniac’s next game is a new Ratchet & Clank game, entitled A Crack in Time. In this one, following up from the events of Tools of Destruction and Quest for Booty, Ratchet is still on the hunt for Clank, especially after the events of Quest for Booty.

It’ll be out this Autumn, like it was hinted at at the end of Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty, the PSN downloadable episode that bridges Tools of Destruction and A Crack in Time. No trailer or screens, just the press release but considering GameTrailers TV showed off Resistance 2 soon after its announcement, and the fact it is also showing an un-announced game on this weekends show, we’re gonna hedge a bet that the debut trailer will be shown this weekend.

Right now, the press release is after the jump.
